Welcome to the second edition of UNHCR Korea’s Online Film Festival. We are thrilled and grateful to be able to invite all of you to our virtual festival again this year. Following last year’s theme of “Stories behind the numbers”, this year, we decided to share our thoughts and ideas under the theme of “Hope away from home”.
Refugees and forcibly displaced people are those who had no choice but to leave their homes because of persecution, during an armed conflict or in peace time. They have then to build a new life in a foreign land, where they cannot yet call ‘home’.
Through films, UNHCR Korea wishes to tell the stories of those forced to live in a place away from home. We hope to convey not just the plight of refugees but also their determination to overcome any difficulties, their remarkable resilience shown along the way and the messages of ‘hope’ that can be found away from home.
We sincerely hope that 2023 UNHCR Korea Online Film Festival will offer an opportunity for the audience to listen to the stories of refugees and feel engaged. Refugees are people just like us, who have been forced to leave their homes due to circumstances beyond their control. We wish to be a part of ‘hope away from home’ to them and we wish you will too.
Once again, welcome and thank you for visiting our film festival. Please do enjoy watching all the films here and have a meaningful time. Thank you.
